You’re playing with your band and you’re in the middle of an improvised jam section of a tune.  You’re feeling good as your playing is right on and every band member is synched up.  An infectious groove is building as everyone is playing their own complimentary part which seamlessly lock into each other like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.  Ego and conscious thought evaporate as you can’t play a wrong note.  You’re on an ethereal vibration that you’re instantly grateful to experience.  In the moment, you no longer control the music.  You exist only as a conduit for the musical energy to effortlessly transcend through you and exit out of your instrument. You feel as if your body actually lifts up off the ground as you are suspended in space and time.

Then all of a sudden, you quickly snap back to consciousness and familiar surroundings.  You’re stoked and uncontrollably grinning from ear to ear as you glance at your fellow musicians with a smirk of approval.

You’ve just achieved the pinnacle; the highest moment that an improvising musician lives for.  You’ve gone for a magical ride on the music, and it’s taken you to the next level.

Every once in a while, when I’m vibin’ in a great jam with my bandmates, I experience a moment that is unlike anything else I’ve ever felt in life.
